Instead of wedding gifts, the guests were asked for something different: a donation. Three causes close to the couple’s hearts, each chosen for a reason.

The Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari, to help finally provide children in Sardinia with a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit. LIDA in Olbia, an association that cares for abandoned animals every day. And the EBRI Foundation, established as part of Rita Levi-Montalcini’s legacy, to advance research into diseases affecting the brain.

This is not the first time the couple has supported these causes: they had already donated €1.2 million to Brotzu Hospital and €200,000 to each of the other two organizations.

But there is another gesture that connects them even more closely to the land that welcomed them.

“We strongly wanted to support and fund an environmental clean-up initiative specifically focused on the areas where our celebrations will take place,” they explain. “It is called ‘Un Sacco Pulito’, and its goal is to leave every area cleaner than we found it, giving something meaningful back to the environment that has hosted us.”

A way of saying thank you to Gallura not just through words, but by leaving it cleaner than they found it.
